Winning Arguments

This post is based on one of my recent Google+ statuses displayed below, but with some added commentary that wouldn't have gone well on my G+ feed.

That post I just mentioned

Crazy awesome commentary that you have to read.

Charlie Sheen is probably the worst example for winning an argument... but the picture is great right?

Winning an argument does not happen from being right or wrong. If two respectable, civilized individuals have an argument they can both come out winners regardless of their contradicting opinions.

Losing a discussion mostly happens when you lose your humanity and are unable to learn because of it.

Failing to communicate in a civilized manner is the most direct way to fail at arguing because argument consists of communication. Many people are able to start a conversation, and sound reasonable, but degrade when you get passed their preconceived notions and try to get them to think.

They usually start off displaying their own false sense of authority, then state some talking points that they had constructed before the argument. Unfortunately they cannot get past the thinking part and instead degrade their own authority and stop communicating in a cohesive, respectful manner.

In conclusion, here are some ways to "Win" an argument

1. Admit you are wrong.
2. Compromise.
3. Communicate respectfully even when provoked.
4. Don't let your emotions get the best of you.
