"You can't understand God, so there is no point in trying." Ha! Challenge accepted.
I've heard this sentiment before. I've heard it from real Christians and atheists alike.
What is the point in trying to understand something which cannot be assigned boundaries, and can never be fully understood? Isn't it just a waste of time to think about something and never come to conclusions?
While those arguments have some faults in and of themselves, I think the answer to whether or not we should try to understand God lies in a single Bible verse. Genesis 1:27 - So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
When we strive to understand God, we learn more about his image and by extension we learn about ourselves.
