Sometimes it seems like Christians and non-Christians are speaking two different languages. This results in a hilarious differentiation in definitions of certain words.

Sometimes Christianity sounds like a different language.

1. Amen

What it usually means: Something said at the end of a prayer.
What it means to Christians: A word used in a heated competition to see who can agree the loudest with the pastor during a sermon.

2. Pew

What it usually means: The sound a lazer makes.
What it means to Christians: A bench-like thing people regret existed after sitting on for an hour and a half.


3. Mature

What it usually means: Having reached a desired or final state. 
What it means to Christians: The word you make fun of old pastors for pronouncing mat-oo-er.

4. Coffee

What it usually means: A dark brown drink with lots of caffeine.
What it means to Christians: The only reason to show up 5 minutes early to Church on a Sunday.

5. Sleeping

What it usually means:  A natural state of rest during which you become unconscious.
What it means to Christians: Something that will happen to everyone during a Church service that got less than 7 hours of sleep the night before, no matter how awesome the pastor is.

6. Resurrection

What it usually means: Something zombies do in movies.
What it means to Christians: Something Jesus did (except he ended up alive rather than undead.)

7. Hunger

What it usually means: Feeling the need for food.
What it means to Christians: An intense yearning to leave a sermon that stretches into your lunch hour.

8. Fruit

What it usually means: A juicy food product from plants.
What it means to Christians: A metaphor for something or another that isn't edible.

9. Sanctification

What it usually means: Wat?
What it means to Christians: A word grown-ups use to sound fancy when talking about Jesus.

10. Clapping

What it usually means: Causing your hands to collide so that a noise is made.
What it means to Christians: A form of mind-control used to make you think you are participating in a worship service.

11. Wrath

What it usually means: Something Khan had in Star Trek II.
What it means to Christians: God's divine judgement on Old Testament people.

12. Brother

What it usually means: Male sibling.
What it means to Christians: Every single human male ever.

13. Spirit

What it usually means: A scary supernatural thing.
What it means to Christians: A not scary supernatural thing.

14. Bread

What it usually means: Food generally made from flour.
What it means to Christians: During communion, this is a small wafer that is actually cardboard in many Churches.

15. Gluttony

What it usually means: Greedy or excessive indulgence.
What it means to Christians: The only sin encouraged by grandmothers.
